Bridle tuning for 4-line NPW 5
NPW bridle tuning (zip 209kb)
- What did I do ?
- Download the program. Set your LK and then check the length of the bridle lines. If you don't like the shape of
the sail then change the bridle length and look what happens to the shape. Example line 7 in the picture. Then save
your changes in a file. You can load a file with your own bridle settings. The maximum is 12 lines (0-11) with
bridle length and distance to the next bridle point.
- At this moment (29-8-1998) I have a kite-friend (Dirk Nijenmanting) who told
me he completly changed the bridle of the standard 2-LINER NPW5 to that of Peter de Jong. In addition he also
increased B1 by 2 cm and B2 by 0.5 cm (for a LK=2.0 version). He claimed enormous performance increase but could
not state the wind window or how much more pull.
I think there is still enough room for improving this kite. Think of the new PL kite which is nothing more then a
clooned NPW5 with glasfiber, less bridle lines, curved fabric and a patent.
Don't be afraid, change the bridle (A1..A12 and B1..B6) of you standard NPW5 to the bridle of Peter de Jong. I
know I will change all my NPW5's to Peter de Jong's bridle. This will work for 4-liners but I don't know if it will
work for the 2-line versions. But that just needs some experimenting.
